Aniya is part of our beautiful military family. We were stationed with her parents in Aviano, Italy and I've known this sweet girl since she was a six years old. Sometimes we aren't always close when we're all stateside, but I was lucky enough to be able to capture this monumental occasion in her life. I’m not much of a word smith, so I’ll let her images do the talking. Just know, she's the bee knees and we are super proud of the young lady she has become. Oh the places you'll go!
Right after school started last year, we booked a cabin up near Grand Lake, Colorado and took the girls for a short weekend adventure. We spent 2 nights up there, did a little hiking, exploring, swimming, and, of course, ice cream. Grand Lake is on the west side of Trail Ridge Road, one of the more scenic drives in Rocky Mountain National Park, and such a gem. The girls really enjoyed the lake and ice cream, I really enjoyed the lake and hiking. Matt had a blast on our hike to the Colorado river. We got to watch the girls play as the sun set over the mountains.
The highlight, for sure, was the moose walking down the road. We definitely want to put it out there that the best thing you can do when you see wildlife is be respectful. Give them their space and get out of their way. A panicked moose with pedestrians does not end well. Luckily, this guy is a local and was able to find his way out of the congested traffic.
While we were hiking to the Colorado River, via the River Run Trail, we talked to the girls about respecting the forest, about fire damage and what it does to the ecosystem. We discussed controlled burns and fire safety. We also talked about water, and making sure to bring enough when you’re walking in the hot sun of August. We barely had enough, didn’t plan accordingly and all guzzled water upon our return to the car.
The biggest thing with our daughters is, if there's water to be played in, they’ll hunt it down. We’re not big sticklers on getting a little dirty to have a little adventure. Connecting to our earth through the soil is something we all should do, as often as we can. In Japan, when you go on walks through the woods, they call it tree bathing. We find the same to be true, it’s good for the soul and good for mental health. So maybe, when you’re done, take those shoes off or whatever, and go put your feet out in the grass. There’s just nothing else like it.
Since she was a little tiny baby with her cute chubby cheeks and my very first rebel xs, we’ve both grown a lot together over the last nine years. I really enjoy this part of what I do, the part where I get to watch beautiful little babies grow into loving and caring, spunky and fun kids! It’s crazy how fast time flies, I swear when we start to see each other annually, it feels like just yesterday we said good bye but a whole year and a whole lot of living has happened between our sessions! Anyway, enough enough! You’re here for the visuals, let’s go ahead and check those out…
We had a lot of fun with this session!
Oh how I miss summer! This awesome family embodies the summer vibes! It is always a fantastic time when you can get everyone from the littlest addition to the the proud grandparents together to capture the family and the milestones! These amazing siblings and their parents brought all the kiddos for a fun morning adventure!
Earlier this Summer we took some time and headed out west to visit family and meet up with friends who moved earlier this year. We didn’t go very far, just a few hours and a state away but it was still an adventure. We spent some time while in Utah with this adorable little lady and her superhero parents! If you’re a regular to MLP, I’m sure you’ve caught a glimpse of Matt and CrystaLynn before, as I’ve been documenting their lives for a few years now! Now we have a new little miss on scene and she has stolen the show, let me tell you!
